4 guests 1 bedroom 2 beds 0.5 bath

Extreme cold (-40°C+) · No emergency services on-site · Blizzard risk · Summer-rated structure only

Hank says this is the most unique accommodation he has ever offered and he is offering a lot of accommodations. The dome is rated for summer use and Hank feels strongly that rated for is more of a floor than a ceiling, meaning you can absolutely exceed that. The aurora australis visible through the dome panels is, he insists, worth every layer of clothing you own and every layer you can borrow. He's added a propane heater and a welcome sign and he considers it fully set up.

The aurora australis from inside the dome at 2 a.m. is something I cannot adequately describe. Hank was right about bringing every layer.

South Pole in December is actually manageable and Hank has made it welcoming. The geodome is sturdy and the view is beyond any other stay on the platform.

Hank's 'rated for summer' framing holds up if you come in January. February gets iffy. Worth every layer. Hank is enthusiastic and helpful.

Response from host

January is peak season and December to mid-January is the sweet window! February bookings I always include a note about conditions. Glad you made it work.

Nothing prepares you for the scale of the white. The dome held through a full polar storm which I wasn't expecting but the structure is impressive.

Midnight sun at the South Pole is twenty-four hours of golden light through a geodome. I didn't sleep at all and didn't want to. Hank is one of a kind.

March at the South Pole is not summer anywhere in any definition. The dome temperature was four degrees Celsius inside. Beautiful auroras. Hank was responsive and offered extra sleeping bag inserts.

Response from host

March is outside the summer window and I do flag that on the booking page! The aurora at that time of year is genuinely special though. Sleeping bag inserts now included as standard. Thank you for being a great sport.

Hank's accommodation is the most unique stay I have ever done and I have done many. The dome is your entire world and it's a good world.
