2 guests 1 bedroom 1 bed 1 bath

Active lighthouse beam (bedroom) · Foghorn operational · Rocky shoreline access only

Arnie leased this keeper's cottage from the maritime authority and says living with the lighthouse beam is something you genuinely get used to — most people within three nights, he's found, so a two-night stay is just getting started. The rhythmic flash he calls natural circadian reinforcement and he's had guests tell him it reset their sleep schedule completely, in the good way, he always clarifies. The cottage itself is charming beyond description, stone walls, ocean views, the whole thing. Blackout curtains are provided and they almost fully close.

What this place offers

Atlantic ocean views (rocks, swells)
Natural circadian reinforcement (beam, every 4.5s)
Blackout curtains (almost fully close)
Kayak launch access (tide-dependent)
Full bathroom with clawfoot tub
French press and local coffee
Wi-Fi (lighthouse authority network)

House rules

  • · Beam is operational at all hours — that's just what a lighthouse does
  • · Do not touch lighthouse equipment or access tower
  • · Maritime authority has standing access to lighthouse (not cottage)
  • · Foghorn activates automatically in low visibility — Arnie apologizes in advance

The rhythmic flash calibrated my sleep perfectly within two nights, exactly as Arnie promised. One of the best sleeps of my life.

The beam sweeps through the blackout curtain every seven seconds and it is hypnotic. Arnie is an exceptional host with maritime knowledge for days.

Sea air, lighthouse beam, stone cottage walls. This is the platonic ideal of a coastal getaway. Arnie was charming and informative.

The beam reset my sleep schedule and I've been waking at 6 a.m. every day since returning home. Arnie calls this a benefit and I am inclined to agree.

Response from host

It's a circadian benefit! The beam timing matches sunrise in most coastal climates — guests report lasting effects. This is the good way.

Winter at a lighthouse cottage is an experience unto itself. The beam sweeping over dark water and fog. Arnie brewed an incredible fish chowder.

The beam is a gentle presence, not a glaring one. Arnie's description of 'natural circadian reinforcement' is funny and also accurate.

The maritime authority should be proud of this property. Arnie has preserved every stone and painted every door. A perfect stay.

Adjusted to the beam by night four which I understand was supposed to happen by night three. Until then: strobe effect, no sleep. Arnie was responsive and sympathetic and the view from the cottage was genuinely stunning.

Response from host

Three nights is the typical adjustment window — night four is a bit longer than usual but you got there! Some guests bring a sleep mask for nights one and two. Adding that to the welcome kit now.

Arrived for three nights and left after five. The beam, the sea, Arnie's company in the evenings — a profoundly restful experience. Would add a sixth star.
