Iridescent Waterfront Houseboat on Nevada's Most Photogenic Mining Pond

Heavy metals in water · Arsenic · No swimming · Structural float concerns

Roy stumbled into hosting when a buddy let him moor the houseboat here rent-free and he hasn't looked back once. The iridescent quality of the water in morning light is something photographers travel for specifically — he's had three separate people tell him it's the most beautiful water they've ever seen. He recommends not trailing your hand over the side, mostly just because of the current and also the current. The deck chairs are in great shape and the sunsets over the berms are genuinely spectacular.

The iridescent water at sunrise was genuinely one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Roy was a great communicator.

The colors on the water — pinks, greens, a kind of electric blue — are extraordinary. I didn't trail my hand over the side as instructed and had a perfect stay.

Roy's vibe is immaculate. He arrived after sunset exactly as the listing promises. The boat rocks very gently. Loved it.

I did trail my hand over the side. I won't say more. Roy was helpful and provided ointment. Three stars because of the view which was genuinely stunning.

Response from host

The current warning is in the house rules AND the listing — but I understand the temptation. Ointment is always stocked. Glad the view made up for it!

Unique experience. The shimmer on the water at dusk was like nothing I've photographed before. Highly recommend for photographers.

Woke up to the sunrise over the pond and felt very much at peace with the universe. Roy doesn't overstay his welcome. Perfect host.

Loved everything about this. The smell was distinctive but I adapted. Roy stocks surprisingly good coffee.

Response from host

The pond does have its own perfume, I'll admit! The coffee is a Sumatra blend — people always ask. Hope you come back.

This is the most photogenic property I have ever stayed in. The chemical gradients in the water produce a surreal palette. Absolute masterpiece.
