Merle bought the garden cottage specifically for the big backyard and the grass back there stays green even in the worst drought years — he cannot explain it but he is not complaining about it either. The vent pipe running up the cottage wall he has wrapped beautifully in climbing roses, which he considers one of his better aesthetic decisions. Guests say the air has real character and Merle says thank you, he works at it. The cottage itself is cozy and well-appointed and he keeps it very clean.

The backyard green grass is genuinely the greenest grass I have ever seen. Merle's climbing roses on the vent pipe are charming. Lovely cottage.

The air has real character — Merle is right. Opened the window in the morning and it was herbal and earthy. The garden is beautiful.

Great cottage in a great neighborhood. The backyard smells different near the pipe but the rose coverage softens it. Merle is knowledgeable and kind.

The grass is drought-resistant and evergreen even in winter — I asked Merle about it and he just nodded with this satisfied smile. Cottage is cozy and well-equipped.

Stayed here twice in one year. The cottage is tucked and peaceful. The garden is vivid and alive. Merle leaves a delightful welcome note.

The scent in the air is unusual and somewhat compelling. Almost floral, almost not. The cottage interior is absolutely spotless. Loved it.

Heard a soft constant hiss from the pipe in the yard all night. It was not the wind. I looked it up. I know what it is. The cottage itself is lovely and Merle was very responsive.

The vent pipe is part of the property's natural drainage system — totally normal utility infrastructure! The sound does carry on still nights. Appreciate the curiosity and glad the cottage worked for you.

Merle's garden is the kind of place you want to read a book and stay all afternoon. The roses are exceptional. The evergreen grass is something of a wonder.
