Handcrafted Ridgeline Treehouse w/ 360° Two-Country Views in Historic Caucasus Region

Contested territory · Border patrol active · Structural: dead tree · No plumbing
Vern built this treehouse himself from reclaimed lumber from the surrounding trees, some of which have since gone dormant, which is just what he calls it. The ridgeline gives you incredible 360-degree views of two countries simultaneously, which is a rare travel experience you genuinely cannot get anywhere else on the platform. Border patrol is sometimes visible from the platform, which Vern calls added activity and honestly it kind of is. He's very proud of the craftsmanship and says the structure is in good shape, which he checks periodically.

The 360-degree view of two countries is not an exaggeration. Spectacular. Vern's reclaimed lumber work is solid.

The border patrol sightings add a unique element of drama I wasn't expecting but absolutely loved. The ridge view is world-class.

Some of the surrounding trees have 'gone dormant' is one way to put it. The view from a bald ridge is actually better. Vern was reachable after a day or two.

Thrilling location. The platform creaks when border patrol helicopters pass — that's not a complaint, just an observation. Vern's notes about the region are excellent.
Response from host
The creak is structural flex, totally normal! I should update the listing to mention helicopters — good call. Glad you loved it.

When Vern says two countries you see TWO countries. The sunset hit the border fence and it was genuinely profound. Unusual stay in the best sense.

One of the dead tree branches fell on the platform roof at 3am. No structural damage but significant emotional damage. View is extraordinary though, and Vern responded eventually.

The dormant trees are monitored periodically! Fallen branch noted and cleared. These are old growth so some movement is expected — good news is the platform held up beautifully.
