Boutique Crawl-Space Suite in Charming Pittsburgh Row House Foundation

No egress windows · Moisture · Radon possible · Limited clearance
This is boutique lodging for the minimalist traveler and Loretta means that in the most thoughtful way possible. The original stone foundation stays refreshingly cool year-round — she says it's basically free climate control. The low ceiling genuinely encourages a restful, horizontal lifestyle, which guests say they didn't know they needed until they tried it. She personally stenciled the welcome mat and it is precious.

Loretta describes this crawl space as 'boutique lodging for the minimalist traveler' and she's not wrong about the minimalism. The original stone foundation stays refreshingly cool year-round, and the low ceiling encourages a very restful, horizontal lifestyle. She personally stenciled the welcome mat.

Boutique is the word. The horizontal lifestyle is restful in a way I didn't expect. Very atmospheric.

Stayed here for a long weekend to think and write. The low ceiling forces a lovely stillness. Would absolutely return.

It's exactly what it says — a crawl space. But Loretta has made it genuinely liveable. I'm 6'3 so the ceiling was tight, but it's charming.

Slept in the fetal position and it was honestly the most peaceful night I can remember. Loretta's communication is first-rate.

The stone smell. The cool air. The total darkness. I slept eleven hours. Phenomenal.

When the listing said 'low ceiling' I assumed it was relative. My spine had opinions. Host was responsive and offered a foam pad upgrade.
Response from host
The ceiling height is listed as 3.5 feet — I try to be very transparent about that! The foam pad upgrade is always available. Glad you made it work.

The pipes above my head were actually comforting, like plumbing white noise. Loretta thought of everything a small person could want.
