Wanda is deeply committed to the yurt lifestyle and this beachfront spot is her absolute crown jewel. The black sand is volcanic in origin, which she finds really exotic and so do her guests. The warm water near the outflow pipe means you can swim almost year-round, which is basically unheard of on this coastline. She calls the faint sulfur note in the air mineral-rich and she stands by that completely.

The black sand is stunning. Wanda's mineral-rich air description is very accurate. I swam every day near the warm outflow and felt great.

Volcanic beach energy is very real. The yurt is beautifully appointed and Wanda's welcome basket had local treats I still think about.

The sulfur note in the air is present but not unpleasant once you adjust. Black sand plus warm water equals absolute paradise.

Gorgeous location, tremendous host. The outflow pipe makes the water pleasantly warm but also a bit fizzy. Minor note, not a dealbreaker.

Wanda is the platonic ideal of a host. The yurt interior is warm, the sand is otherworldly, and the stars over the water at night are staggering.

I came for a weekend and tried to extend to a month. The volcanic origin of the beach gives it an alien beauty. Wanda knows exactly what she has.

Rash appeared on day three. Correlated with the swimming near the outflow pipe. The beach itself is undeniably beautiful and Wanda was very responsive.

Response from host

The outflow water is documented as warm-water swimming — we note it's best for dipping rather than long swims in the FAQ! Wishing you a speedy recovery and a future return visit.

The yurt in winter was surprisingly warm and the beach in off-season is empty and haunting in a good way. Best decision I made all year.
